Blackpool Christmas lights 2011 switch on takes place on Saturday November 19th at St. John’s in the town centre with entertainment starting about 2.00 pm and the actual turning on of the lights taking place at around 4.30 pm. Although the Blackpool Christmas lights are not on the same scale as the world renowned autumn illuminations in the resort they are created by the same team, and this year the display is anticipated to be better than ever. The Xmas lights are a colourful and bright setting for the many other festive activities that will take place in the town during the celebratory period, including shopping, shows, dinners, dances, and other seasonal activities and entertainments. The 2011 Blackpool Christmas lights will be switched on by the MOBO award winner Tinchy Stryder, famous for hits such as 'Take Me Back’ and ‘Number 1’. He is set to begin a nationwide tour and there is a chance to meet him by entering a competition run by visitblackpool. The switch on event is hosted by 97.4 Rock FM and other artistes performing will include former star of Neighbours Sam Clark, Jonjo Kerr who has appeared in the finals of X Factor, and the local band Boomin. The lights switch on is part of an afternoon of entertainments starting at 2.00 pm. which will include local artists, community groups, and street entertainers. During the seasonal period there are shows pantomimes and a variety of festive activities in the resort’s venues and theatres. Santa’s Reindeer as well as Santa and his sleigh will be in Blackpool on November 20th and 27th.
